Juarez Moreira

The guitarist, composer and arranger Juarez Moreira was Born in Guanhães, Minas Gerais is self taught and learned to play guitar when he was 12. In Belo Horizonte, met Toninho Horta, André Dequech and Yuri Popoff – musicians with whom developed multiple jobs.

He was member of Vera Cruz group, formed by Yuri, Mauro Rodrigues, Joseph Namem and Nenem. Juarez had his professional debut in the group of Wagner Tiso, in 1978. Soon after, he played alongside names such as Maria Bethania, Paulo Moura, Milton Nascimento, Nivaldo Ornelas, Lô Borges and Beto Guedes, among others.

In 1985, Toninho Horta recorded his song “Diamantina”. The following year, he lived in the United States, where he worked with the musicians Steve Sacks and Claudio Roditi. In 1989, he released his first record “Bom dia”, with the participation of André Dequech, Paulo Moura, Toninho Horta, Zeca Assumpção and Esdra Ferreira (Nenem) . In 1991 he was chosen in national competition, to play at the Free Jazz Festival.

He released three more CDs: Nuvens douradas (Golden Clouds) (Juarez Moreira plays Tom Jobim), Samblues and Aquarelas (Watercolors) (Nivaldo Ornelas and Juarez Moreira interpreting the music of Ari Barroso).

In 1997 , was released the CD Juarez Moreira and Badi Assad, at the project Brazil Musical (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil). That same year, his album “Bom dia” was released on CD, and in 1998 reached the United States, Canada, Japan and Europe by American label Malandro Records.

In 2000, he released the CD Quadros Modernos, alongside Toninho Horta e Chiquito Braga. In 2002, he workwd as arranger for several CD’s including “Lua luará”, by the Claudia, Heikki Sarmanto and Fernando Brant. In October and November of that year he toured the circuit “Connection Telemig Celular. In November he traveled to the United States (Connecticut) for concerts and guitar workshops.

In 2003, He releases his CD “Juarez Moreira Solo” on which he plays great composers of Brazilian music and classical international music. In March 2004, toured Portugal (Lisbon), Italy (Milan) and Finland (Vantaa, Tampere and Jyvaskyla) with Heikki Sarmanto and Claudia releasing the CD “Lua luará.” In the same year, Juarez Moreira toured the Natura Musical, sponsored by Natura. The musician performed and conducted workshops in the cities of Uberlandia, Pouso Alegre, Montes Claros, Viçosa, besides Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte. Abroad, Juarez Moreira appeared in France in July, during the Project “Year of Brazil” and in September participated in the festival conceived bthe musician Juan Falú, “Guitars Del Mundo” in five cities in Argentina, among them Buenos Aires.

The artist participated in the final edition of the Cultural Market, Bahia. In 2006, he presented, with the band, the project “MBR in the Square,” at Praça da Liberdade, in Belo Horizonte. In September, Juarez made the show “Quadros Modernos,” with Toninho Horta and Chiquito Braga, within the project “Time of Music”, at the Plaza JK, also in BH. In 2007 he released the CD Juá, with musics of his own and is touring in several cities in Minas Gerais.
